Almost every university (especially SEMP partner universities) requires exchange students to submit a Learning Agreement , listing the courses to be taken. The Learning Agreement is to be signed by the relevant member of the Department of Business Administration (this is always the subject coordinator). Please note the following when choosing external courses:
- Important information about external courses is available on the websites of the host universities in question.
- Only Business Administration courses can be credited to the Business Administration program. The MSc B&Ec and MA B&L programs can represent an exception to this, where it is also possible to gain accreditation for courses in Economics or Law. It is not possible to receive accreditation for language courses.
- The number of ECTS credits that can be credited to a Bachelor’s or Master’s program is capped. In Business Administration, you can usually receive accreditation for a max. of 30 ECTS credits (major), or 50% of the ECTS credits to be gained in Business Administration (minor).
- The classification of a course at Bachelor’s or Master’s level is based on the host university’s classification.
- External academic achievements will be credited as equivalent to those offered in Bern, provided that the content of the achievement is largely identical.
- If an externally completed course is equivalent to a course offered at the University of Bern, the external course can only be credited as long as the equivalent course offered in Bern has not yet been completed.
- The number of ECTS credits credited from an equivalent external course is capped at the number of ECTS credits that a student would receive if they took the identical course at the University of Bern.
- If an external course is to be credited as an equivalent to a course offered at the University of Bern, we recommend that students obtain confirmation of this by submitting the Learning Agreement prior to departing.
Students are asked to submit the following documents to the Departmental Staff Office prior to their departure:
- Learning Agreement: Learning Agreement (DOC, 162KB) (completed and signed)
- Personal Registration Form BWL (in German) (PDF, 12KB) of the Department of Business Administration (including personal information)
- Brief description of the courses listed in the LA (excerpt from the course catalog, printout of the website in question, or similar). Please include an official level classification (Bachelor’s or Master’s level)
- Conversion scales for ECTS credits/grades
The Departmental Staff Office will return the countersigned Learning Agreement to the students. However, it is not possible to post this abroad.
